The Gilgit-Baltistan government has presented a three-month delayed budget of Rs218.845 billion for the fiscal year 2026-27, with a deficit of over Rs52 billion, seeking additional funds from the federal government.

Senior Minister Mohammad Ali Akhtar, who also holds the finance portfolio, presented the budget in the GB Assembly on Tuesday, presided over by Speaker Imran Nadeem.

Akhtar stated that the elected government assumed office at the end of June 2026, and due to limited time, a three-month interim budget was presented based on the previous financial year.

The budget places special emphasis on education, health, basic infrastructure, and the welfare of the underprivileged segment of society, with a total budget of approximately Rs218.845 billion.

Rs43.97 billion is allocated for development, while Rs149.87 billion is for non-development expenditure. The total budget, including the federal stabilisation package, reaches Rs218 billion.

Tax revenues are targeted at Rs16.98 billion, and efforts are under way to secure the required funds from the federal government to meet the budget deficit of Rs52.65 billion.

The size of the ADP has been increased from Rs22 billion to Rs23 billion, while the amount allocated under the federal PSDP has been increased from Rs15 billion to Rs20.973 billion, including Rs4 billion under the PM’s package.

The wheat subsidy fund, reduced to Rs15 billion, has been raised to Rs22 billion, with an estimated revenue from wheat sale of Rs3 billion.

GB has requested a special stabilisation package of around Rs153.30 billion from the federal government for economic and administrative stability, with targets set for various sectors including law and order, education, health, and tourism.
