Din Muhammad, the wrestler who won the first gold medal for Pakistan, passed away.
Din Muhammad won the gold medal for Pakistan at the 1954 Asian Games. Wrestler Din Muhammad Pahlavan was over a hundred years old.
Din Muhammad Pahlawan, a resident of Batapur, a suburb of Lahore, represented Pakistan at the Asian Games in Manila, and raised the flag of Pakistan. He defeated wrestlers from the Philippines, India and Japan to win the title.
In addition to winning medals at the Asian Games, Din Muhammad also raised the flag of Pakistan in several international competitions, and won a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games.
Provincial Sports Minister Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar and DG Sports Punjab Khazir Afzal Chaudhry have expressed deep sorrow over the passing away of Baba Din Muhammad.
The provincial sports minister said that wrestler Din Muhammad’s services to the country are unforgettable, and he always kept the flag of Pakistan high in the wrestling arena.
