Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD is in discussions with its local partner, Mega Motor Company (MMC), to introduce its next-generation ultra-fast charging technology in Pakistan. This move is part of BYD’s strategy to support the adoption of new energy vehicles in the country.
According to Liu Xueliang, Vice President of BYD Co., Ltd., and General Manager of BYD’s Asia Pacific Auto Sales Division, the technology is powered by BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery, which significantly reduces charging time, making electric vehicles more practical for everyday use.
Liu explained that the latest charging technology is designed for next-generation vehicles equipped with the new battery platform. Existing BYD vehicles will continue to be compatible with the existing charging infrastructure, although charging speeds may vary.
The introduction of this technology in Pakistan will depend on infrastructure readiness, discussions with relevant stakeholders, and future product planning. Liu stated, 'We are currently discussing with our local partner, Mega Motor Company, how this technology could eventually be introduced to serve Pakistani customers.'
BYD is also planning to establish a manufacturing plant in Pakistan, which is expected to launch in the second half of 2026. Liu shared that the project is 'nearing its launch' and will have a production capacity of 25,000 units per annum, scalable to 50,000 units per annum.
The plant is expected to generate more than 1,100 jobs and contribute to sustainable industrialisation. Additionally, it is anticipated to help avoid an estimated 165,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions by 2034.
Liu further informed that more details about the project will be shared in due course. The manufacturing facility is BYD’s sixth outside of China and is part of the company’s broader strategy to expand its presence in the region.
