Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has launched a nationwide campaign to demand free education for every child in Pakistan, according to a statement by the party’s chief, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman.
Speaking at the Peshawar Press Club, Rehman highlighted the importance of education as a fundamental right, stating that access to quality education should not be a luxury.
Rehman criticized the government’s performance, citing rising inflation, costly electricity, and increasing petrol prices as factors that have made life difficult for ordinary citizens.
He questioned why the government could not provide similar opportunities as those offered by JI, which has run large-scale training initiatives across the country, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
More than 1.7 million children have received training through fully funded scholarships, according to Rehman, emphasizing the scale of JI’s efforts in providing educational opportunities.
The JI chief also expressed concern over the number of out-of-school children, noting that 5 million children are not enrolled in schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while the numbers in Punjab and Sindh are even higher.
Rehman criticized recent remarks by the Punjab chief minister, stating that they give the impression that the country’s problems have been resolved despite continuing gaps in education and other public services.
The party plans to continue its campaign against the petroleum levy while also launching a separate movement for quality free education and equal learning opportunities for children across Pakistan.
JI has also been involved in helping Gaza students continue their education, including medical studies, and has provided over Rs10 billion in aid to the people of Gaza.
