The Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) requested that the government evaluate the Gift Scheme for used vehicles. Haroon Akhtar Khan, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, received a formal letter from the association regarding the policy.

Imports of used vehicles under the scheme reached 2,238 units in September 2026, representing approximately 98 percent of all such imports during that month. Data shows a significant increase in volume, rising from 7 units in May 2026 to 806 units in June 2026, followed by 1,876 units in July 2026 and 1,406 units in August 2026.

Used car imports spiked by 4,600 percent earlier this month. PAMA advocates for the genuine facilitation of overseas Pakistanis under SRO 61(I)/2026, which was issued on 15 January 2026.

The domestic auto industry has poured over 1 trillion rupees into local manufacturing, establishing 13 plants that produce more than 100 models across 31 brands. Localization in many categories has reached around 60 percent.

The National Tariff Policy previously included a depreciation of up to 60 percent on used imported cars. The association has asked for a meeting to present its recommendations in person.
