The benchmark KSE-100 index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) rose by over 1,450 points to close near 167,195 on 29 October, marking the fourth consecutive session of recovery.

Arif Habib Limited (AHL) reported that the index finished at 167,193.44. A total of 55 constituents advanced during the session while 43 decliners weighed on the market. Pak Petroleum Limited (PPL) posted first-quarter earnings of Rs9.26 per share, representing a 25% year-on-year increase.

Pakistan State Oil (PSO) reported earnings of Rs54.44 per share, which surged by 172% compared to the previous year. AHL stated that the index moved into weekly resistance, although the technical downside reference near 160,000 remains open.

"The market continues to recover from the mid-October sell-off, with gains concentrated in banks and fertiliser stocks while oil-linked names registered mixed results with price support. Volume was the heaviest in several weeks, confirming broad participation in the bounce, yet the proximity to resistance and the still-open 160k level keep the near-term technical picture two-sided," said AHL. Trading volumes reached 816.83 million shares, a significant rise from the 578.12 million shares recorded in the previous session.

The total value of shares traded during the day amounted to Rs31.54 billion. Shares of 499 companies were traded, with 232 stocks closing higher, 232 falling, and 35 remaining unchanged. Cnergyico Pk led the volume with 184 million shares traded, gaining Rs1.28 to close at Rs14.08.

Pervez Ahmed Consultancy saw 81.1 million shares traded, rising Rs0.73 to close at Rs4.40. K-Electric recorded 46.8 million shares traded, gaining Rs0.13 to close at Rs5.96. The National Clearing Company reported that foreign investors sold shares worth Rs1.2 billion.
