The Japan IP Market is scheduled to return to Cannes from 14 to 15 May 2027.
The Cannes Film Market and TIFFCOM are collaborating to host this specific event. Japan previously served as the Country of Honor at the Cannes Film Market in May 2026. Major Japanese entities including Kadokawa, Shochiku and Toei Company participated in the Japan IP Market.
Fujimura Tetsu, the founder and CEO of Filosophia, Inc. and executive producer of “One Piece”, acted as a speaker. Shiina Yasushi, the CEO of TIFFCOM and executive adviser at UNIJAPAN, said the partnership with the Cannes market plays an important role for Japan’s audiovisual industry.
Shiina also stated that the Cannes market is the biggest market attached to any film festival in the world.
Shiina added, "Meeting the international professionals who gather there and creating together with them is the key to nurturing Japanese IP into global content." Ikeda Kaori, the managing director of TIFFCOM, noted that the first edition demonstrated the global interest in Japanese IP among producers and partners.
Ikeda said, "Through the continued partnership linking Cannes in May with the Tokyo IP Market in October, we are pleased to offer more professionals the opportunity to meet Japanese rights holders directly and discover the rich diversity of Japanese IP." Organisers will reveal the rest of the program and the 2027 roster of companies in the coming months.
