President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), Mohammad Zikria Akbar Zia, stated on Wednesday that renewable energy is vital for strengthening Pakistan’s economy, enhancing energy security, reducing industrial production costs, and attracting investment. According to a press release issued in Islamabad, Zia emphasized that a greater reliance on wind, solar, and other alternative energy sources is essential for sustainable economic and industrial development.
Zia expressed these views during a meeting with a joint delegation that visited the ICCI to congratulate its newly elected leadership. The delegation included Chairman of the Pakistan Alternative Energy Association (PAEA) Asif Javed and his Executive Committee, Chairman of the Renewable Energy Association Pakistan (REAP) Tayyab Niaz and his Executive Committee, and Vice Chairman of the Pakistan Solar Association (PSA) Choudhry Uzair and his Executive Committee.
The meeting focused on strengthening institutional cooperation between the PAEA and the ICCI to promote the sector and address its key challenges. Senior Vice President Mohammad Ashfaq Hussain Chatha and Vice President Mohammad Waqas Khan emphasized the importance of closer engagement between business institutions and renewable energy stakeholders to facilitate investment, improve the policy environment, and encourage the adoption of modern clean energy technologies.
The visiting delegation expressed confidence that a strong partnership between the PAEA and the ICCI would open new avenues for investment, facilitate technology transfer, and accelerate the development of Pakistan’s alternative energy industry. They appreciated the ICCI’s commitment to strengthening institutional collaboration.
Both sides discussed jointly organizing awareness programmes, training sessions, seminars, and conferences. The proposed collaboration would also focus on promoting renewable energy solutions for the industrial sector, encouraging local battery manufacturing, creating employment opportunities, and developing EV charging infrastructure across Pakistan.
President Zia assured the delegation of the Chamber’s full support in promoting the alternative energy sector. He pledged to work closely with the associations to strengthen industry linkages, facilitate business opportunities, and advance their shared objectives.
