Rawalpindi has issued a comprehensive traffic and diversion plan for the upcoming T20 matches of the tri-nation cricket series at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Chief Security Officer Muhammad Waseem, under the direction of Chief Traffic Officer Farhan Aslam, finalised the plan ahead of the Pakistan and Sri Lanka teams’ practice session scheduled for Tuesday.
The plan includes the deployment of over 321 traffic officers and wardens to manage traffic flow around the stadium and on major arteries.
During the matches, Stadium Road, from the 9th Avenue intersection to Double Road Chowk, will remain closed to traffic in both directions.
Commuters entering Rawalpindi from 9th Avenue will be diverted through Faizabad and the Islamabad Expressway, while traffic will also be sent through I.J.P. Road towards Pandorian Chowk, Katarian, Carriage Factory, Pirwadhai Morr and Chak Madad.
Vehicles moving from Rawalpindi towards 9th Avenue via Double Road will be diverted through Murree Road and Faizabad before entering Islamabad.
During the movement of the teams, traffic from Murree Road towards Islamabad will be temporarily diverted at 6th Road, and commuters will be able to use Saidpur Road via 6th Road to enter the capital.
Traffic approaching Rawalpindi from Islamabad will be diverted from Faizabad onto the Islamabad Expressway, while vehicles coming from Ghousia Chowk will be sent towards Kurri Road via Farooq-e-Azam Road.
Three parking areas have been designated for spectators, including the Civil Aviation Ground near Shaheen Chowk, Shahbaz Sharif Park near Shaheen Chowk, and the Government Graduate Degree College in Satellite Town.
