Punjab Minister for Agriculture Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani expressed optimism about achieving the cotton production target during a review meeting on cotton, wheat, and smog control in Multan.

The meeting, held on Friday, was attended by various officials including MPA Muhammad Salman Naeem, Secretary Agriculture Punjab Shakeel Ahmad Mian, and Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Asif Ali.

Kirmani stated that the current cotton situation is encouraging, and a comprehensive strategy would be developed for wheat cultivation to ensure profitable and better production.

He also highlighted the provision of alternative facilities for farmers to dispose of rice crop residues, including 10,000 Super Seeders at subsidised rates, 450 modern harvesters, and 150 balers.

Secretary Agriculture Punjab Shakeel Ahmad Mian informed the participants that the smog control campaign launched by the Agriculture Department Punjab was being closely monitored.

Focal persons had been appointed at the provincial and district levels to ensure effective monitoring and implementation of the campaign.

The participants were given a detailed briefing on the current cotton situation, the strategy for the upcoming wheat crop, and the ongoing smog control campaign.

Kirmani emphasized the importance of utilizing all possible resources and means to ensure the production target is met, highlighting the positive impact of prevailing cotton prices on farmers.
