The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued an alert for the ninth and final spell of monsoon rains, which is expected to affect the province between September 12 and 17.
Rainfall is anticipated in Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Chakwal, Talagang, and Attock from September 12 to 17, while Lahore, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Narowal, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Wazirabad, Hafizabad, Kasur, Okara, Nankana Sahib, and Sargodha are expected to receive rain between September 14 and 17.
The PDMA spokesperson also mentioned that there is a possibility of rain in Khushab, Mianwali, Noorpur Thal, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Layyah, Bhakkar, Sahiwal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, and surrounding areas.
Director General PDMA Muhammad Saif Anwar Jappa directed relevant agencies to remain alert due to the risk of landslides in Murree, Galyat, and other hilly areas.
He instructed commissioners and deputy commissioners across the province to remain on high alert, emphasizing proactive measures to prevent urban flooding in major cities such as Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, and Faisalabad.
The DG PDMA also warned of the risk of flash floods in rainwater drains, stating that alerts had been issued to all district administrations in accordance with the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
Water flow in all rivers of Punjab is reported to be normal, with the Indus, Chenab, Jhelum, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers recording water levels at normal levels. The water situation in the riverine areas of Dera Ghazi Khan and Nala Deg is also at normal levels.
Tarbela Dam is 100 percent full, while Mangla Dam is 78 percent full, indicating a manageable water situation.
PDMA Punjab is continuously monitoring the situation and has set up flood relief camps in affected areas, where victims will be provided with shelter, food, clean water, medical facilities, and other basic necessities.
