Key Takeaways

  • Two national cricket players, Imamul Haq and Mohammad Rizwan, appeared before the NCCIA.
  • The investigation is related to alleged leaks from the dressing room during the England series.
  • The PCB has initiated an internal disciplinary inquiry following media reports.

In a significant development, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has summoned two players from Pakistan’s national cricket team for questioning over alleged leaks from the dressing room during the recent England series.

Imamul Haq and Mohammad Rizwan were quizzed by the NCCIA in Lahore on Thursday, following a complaint lodged by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The PCB spokesperson acknowledged the reports but declined to comment further while the inquiry is ongoing.

Interior Minister and PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi did not respond to requests for comment.

According to a source, both players were summoned through notices and were questioned for approximately four hours.

The source also stated that the PCB had already handed over the players' cellphones to the NCCIA for forensic examination.

Both cricketers have requested more time to submit written responses to the investigating agency.

This is not the first time cricketers from Pakistan’s national side have faced scrutiny, but the involvement of a law enforcement agency during an ongoing series is unprecedented.

Following a disastrous tour of Australia in 2009-10, an inquiry committee recommended action against several senior players, including Mohammad Yousuf, Younis Khan, and Shahid Afridi.

In the wake of the match-fixing scandal during Pakistan’s 2010 tour of England, a dual-track approach was adopted, involving both disciplinary proceedings and criminal prosecution.
