Key Takeaways
- Sindh government has reduced school timings by one hour.
- The change applies to all public schools until further notice.
- The move follows a six-day school week initially announced in late July.
The Sindh government has issued a notification reducing the class timings for public schools by one hour, effective immediately. This decision was communicated through a circular dated Wednesday, which stated that the new timings would apply during the prescribed five-day school-observing week.
According to the circular, all other terms and conditions previously set remain unchanged. The directive emphasizes strict implementation of the revised timings to ensure compliance across all educational institutions.
This latest adjustment comes after the Sindh government had previously announced a six-day school week for both public and private institutions in late July. However, the following day, it allowed private schools to decide their own schedules, leading to a more flexible approach.
On August 5, the government reverted to a five-day school week for all schools and colleges, reversing its earlier decision. This change was made in response to the economic impact of the US-Israeli war on Iran, which necessitated austerity measures, including a spring vacation for schools from March 16 to 31.
In line with these austerity measures, the provincial government had also declared Saturday and Sunday as off days, effective from April 1, to conserve fuel and manage resources.
The circular directed heads of educational institutions and field officers to ensure the strict implementation of the revised timings. It also reiterated that all other conditions and directions contained in the previous circular remain applicable.
The government's decision to reduce school timings by one hour is part of a broader strategy to manage resources and adapt to the economic challenges posed by regional events. The move is expected to affect approximately 1.5 million students across Sindh, impacting their daily routines and academic schedules.
