  • Eton College, founded in 1440, is one of Britain's most elite schools with an annual fee of £65,000.

Prince George, the 13-year-old grandson of King Charles, began his new school life at Eton College on Tuesday, following in the footsteps of his father, Prince William, and his uncle, Prince Harry.

The future British king was welcomed to the 600-year-old institution by Eton’s headteacher, Simon Henderson, alongside his parents, Prince William and Princess of Wales, Kate.

Eton, located close to Windsor Castle, west of London, is one of Britain’s most prestigious schools, and has educated 20 British prime ministers, including Boris Johnson and David Cameron.

Prince George’s first day coincided with the fourth anniversary of the death of his great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, and the accession of Charles to the throne.

The all-boys boarding school, founded by King Henry VI in 1440, has a long history of educating the country’s elite, including actors Hugh Laurie, Damian Lewis, and Tom Hiddleston.

George, who previously attended the private Lambrook School near Windsor with his sister and younger brother, will now join the ranks of his father and uncle at Eton, where they all have a home.

Prince William, the first royal to attend Eton, previously attended Gordonstoun, a private school on the north coast of Scotland, which his father, Prince Philip, also attended but found challenging.

Eton retains many traditions, with pupils wearing tailcoats, waistcoats, and gowns, and referring to teachers as 'beaks'.

The annual fee for Eton is approximately £65,000, making it one of the most expensive schools in the UK.
