The federal government has disbursed Rs. 2.935 trillion to Independent Power Producers (IPPs) for electricity generated during the first 11 months of fiscal year 2025-26, according to Ministry of Energy documents.

The payments covered a diverse range of power plants, with hydropower plants accounting for the largest share, generating 34,234 gigawatt-hours (GWh) and receiving Rs. 375.04 billion.

Nuclear power plants generated 21,031 GWh, with the government paying Rs. 469.44 billion, making them the second-largest recipients of payments.

Imported coal-based power plants, which generated 12,048 GWh, received Rs. 637.91 billion, while RLNG-based plants, generating 16,097 GWh, were paid Rs. 527.10 billion.

Gas-fired power plants, which produced 10,588 GWh, received Rs. 200.84 billion, followed by wind power plants, which generated 3,804 GWh and were paid Rs. 144.43 billion.

Solar power plants, generating 1,074 GWh, received Rs. 36.51 billion, while bagasse-based power plants, producing 714 GWh, were paid Rs. 14.82 billion.

The Ministry of Energy confirmed that all payments were made at rates determined by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) or as specified in the agreements with the power producers.

The final billing for June 2026 is still pending, with the Ministry of Energy stating that the process is not yet complete.
