IBCC Expands Science Equivalence for Foreign-Board Students
Students from foreign boards are now eligible for Science Group equivalence under new IBCC rules.

Key Takeaways

  • IBCC has relaxed rules for foreign-board students seeking Science Group equivalence.
  • Students now need to pass at least two science subjects to qualify.
  • The move aims to improve academic transparency and international recognition.

The Inter Board Coordination Commission (IBCC) has approved new rules to make it easier for foreign-board students to obtain Science Group equivalence in Pakistan. The decision was made at the 184th Forum meeting held in Murree.

According to the IBCC, students from foreign boards who have passed at least two science subjects will now be eligible for Science Group equivalence. This change is part of a broader effort to modernize Pakistan’s examination system and align it more closely with international standards.

In addition to the new equivalence rules, the IBCC has also recommended including 12 more Deeni Madaris for SSC and HSSC equivalence, bringing the total number of institutions covered under the framework to 26. This expansion aims to provide more options for students seeking alternative educational pathways.

The commission has also decided to include B-Form or CNIC numbers on SSC and HSSC certificates. This move is intended to make academic records easier to identify, access, and verify, thereby enhancing the transparency and uniformity of Pakistani qualifications.

To further support high-achieving students, the IBCC has announced the provision of scholarships and overseas exposure opportunities. Winter and summer camps will be organized for board toppers to provide additional learning, leadership, and exposure opportunities.

The two-day meeting focused on shifting Pakistan’s examination system away from rote learning toward a more conceptual assessment approach. Chairpersons of BISEs from across Pakistan, technical education boards, and senior representatives of curriculum and textbook boards attended the forum.

The IBCC’s efforts are part of a larger initiative to improve the academic standards and international recognition of Pakistani qualifications. By making the examination and equivalence system more flexible and transparent, the commission hopes to attract more international students and enhance the overall quality of education in Pakistan.

The changes are expected to benefit a wide range of students, including those from foreign boards who wish to pursue higher education in Pakistan or abroad. The new rules are designed to ensure that students have more options and opportunities to succeed in their academic pursuits.
