A humanitarian ceasefire in Ukraine's Kherson region is scheduled to conclude at 22:59 Ukrainian time on Sunday night.
The limited pause in hostilities, which began on Tuesday, was brokered with the assistance of US First Lady Melania Trump and Pope Leo XIV. This agreement enabled civilians to evacuate the city of Oleshky, which has been under Russian occupation since the start of the full-scale invasion in February 2022. Ukrainian military positions are situated just 5km from Oleshky.
Dmytro Lubinets, Ukraine's human rights ombudsman, stated that the oldest evacuee was 94 years old while the youngest was one. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia struck energy infrastructure in four regions overnight on Saturday into Sunday, leaving hundreds of thousands without electricity.
Zelensky said in a social media post that the intensity of Russian strikes has been "extremely high" over the past week.
The president added that Russia was "trying to take maximum advantage of the shortage of ballistic missile interceptors." Zelensky further noted that Ukraine communicates its daily need for Patriot missiles, the only effective weapon for downing Russian ballistic missiles, to the US, Europe, and other partners.
Ukraine hit a major missile fuel producer in Russia's Rostov region, causing a fire and damaging four production facilities, Zelensky said. The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported that another overnight strike killed two people, including a 13-year-old girl, in the Vinnytsia region. Emergency power cuts have been implemented across the country due to regular attacks on energy infrastructure.
Electricity is cut off for most of the day in the capital, Kyiv. The governor of the Dnipropetrovsk region said that while most customers had their connections restored by early evening, more than 60,000 were still without power.
