Donald Trump made remarks at a rally in Grand Island, Nebraska, suggesting that Iran could 'take out' Los Angeles or San Diego. Following these comments, Gavin Newsom spoke out, asserting that an American president discussing Los Angeles and San Diego being 'taken out' is dangerous.
Newsom further stated that Donald Trump is 'deranged and dangerous' and that the President is advocating for an attack on over ten million U.S. residents across two major American cities. Karen Bass assailed the president for making 'irresponsible threats' concerning Los Angeles.
Todd Gloria added that San Diego is not 'collateral damage' and stressed that the city is not expendable nor a 'small price to pay'. Xavier Becerra asserted that the lives of thirteen million Californians do not constitute a 'small price to pay' or a punchline for Donald Trump.
Previously, US defence officials reported that Iran currently lacks the capacity to launch a direct missile attack on the US mainland. Trump had previously argued that permitting Iran to develop a nuclear weapon would pose a threat to US cities.
The White House did not issue an immediate response when asked for comment regarding the remarks.
