Donald Trump wants to establish a presidential retreat at his Florida golf club. The golf club would cover construction costs as a "gift" to Americans and grant free memberships to future presidents and visiting foreign dignitaries.
Trump stated the proposed retreat would be "only about two minutes away from the airport." According to a letter dated 3 September, Trump offered to designate the club as a "U.S. Presidential Golf Course" for visiting heads of state and presidents.
The golf club would provide access to all its facilities without cost to the federal government and offer free membership to future presidents. Trump also stated that Secret Service officials first suggested the concept of using the golf club for a presidential retreat.
For comparison, the Camp David property is situated in Catoctin Mountain Park in Frederick County, Maryland. Furthermore, the entire Camp David facility remains staffed by uniformed members of the US Navy and Marine Corps.
