Pakistan’s Foreign Office confirmed that Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye agreed to rapidly deploy military forces and capabilities inside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). The decision followed an emergency meeting of the Strategic Political and Defence Committee (SPDC) of the Makkah Defence Alliance, which took place in Riyadh.
During the meeting, the Foreign Office stated that the Committee decided to move immediately to the practical implementation of the collective defence commitments. Three members condemned the attempted targeting of Makkah and Madina, alongside ongoing attacks on Saudi cities and civilian and economic facilities.
Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif stated that Saudi Arabia achieved gains in Yemen and recovered some areas. The Foreign Office announced that the SPDC appointed Pakistan’s Lieutenant General (Retd) Nauman Mahmood as the alliance’s first secretary general for a three-year term.
The Makkah defence pact was signed on 7 August. Furthermore, Yemen’s Saudi-led coalition government launched a major campaign aimed at recapturing Houthi-held territory.
