Meta is issuing a new class of non-voting shares to finance its artificial intelligence initiatives, potential acquisitions, and employee compensation. Trading for these specific shares is scheduled to commence in 2027.
The company anticipates capital expenditures ranging from $135 billion to $145 billion during this year. Susan Li stated the move aims to "expand our funding tools and give us flexibility to invest behind the unprecedented momentum we’re seeing across every part of our business driven by AI."
Meta noted that the scale of investment required to compete, sustain growth, expand infrastructure, and pursue new strategic initiatives amidst the AI transformation taking place in the industry is significant. In September, the firm launched Muse, an AI agent that reached 10 million downloads in the United States this week.
The company also released the Muse Wonder model this week but paused the agent's conversation-sharing feature. This pause followed a discovery by researchers that Muse chats were publicly accessible on the internet.
