The Game, Meek Mill, and Run the Jewels remixed their own hits over the summer period. The Game featured Snoop Dogg on a remix of "Nuthin' but a 'G' Thang."
During the collaboration, The Game and Snoop made references to "Hate It or Love It," while also paying tribute to West Coast legends such as Nipsey Hussle, 2Pac, and Ice Cube. A sample from Bobby Caldwell's 1978 track "What You Won’t Do for Love" helped tie the new version together.
Meek Mill recalled his earlier motivational scripture, "Dreams and Nightmares," for the new track titled "Nightmares to Dreams." DJ Shadow and Run the Jewels marked ten years of their joint effort "Nobody Speak" with a follow-up track called "Nobody Speak Part 2."
Nas released "N.Y. State of Mind Pt. II," a sequel to his classic Illmatic track, five years after the original dropped. Lil Uzi Vert released "P2," which followed the 2017 hit "XO Tour Llif3" three years later.
The track "P2" subsequently reached the number eleven spot on the Hot 100 chart. Metro Boomin, The Weeknd, and 21 Savage remade Mario Winans' "I Don't Wanna Know" with "Creepin," achieving a top five Hot 100 hit nearly two decades after the original release.
As of 2026, Drake remains the sole rapper to secure a top 10 Hot 100 hit this year as a lead artist. Only Meek Mill's "Nightmares to Dreams" charted on the Hot 100, peaking at number eighty-two for one week before exiting the chart.
The Game suggested that the genre's recent poor showing stems from a modern disconnect from the rap generation he grew up with. A rising West Coast rapper contacted The Game seeking counsel on enhancing his artistic abilities.
