Pakistan health authorities urge parents to vaccinate daughters against cervical cancer

Health authorities have urged parents to ensure their daughters receive the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine to prevent cervical cancer. The Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) encouraged families to make informed choices regarding the health of their daughters.
Vaccination provides the best protection when administered at the recommended age of 9 to 14 years. Cervical cancer develops in the cervix, which is the lower part of the uterus.
Medical experts state that the vaccine is considered safe and effective for use. Preventing the disease is largely possible through a combination of HPV vaccination and appropriate screening later in life.
Limited awareness and various barriers to healthcare can stop women and girls from accessing timely preventive services.
