Pakistan plans LNG procurement, amends terminal rules, and seeks cabinet approval

Pakistan plans to secure twenty-five to twenty-six Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) cargoes between November and February. These LNG cargoes will arrive via long-term agreements with Qatar and other friendly nations, alongside purchases from the spot market.
The government intends to maintain spot LNG prices within a range of $26 to $27 per Million British Thermal Units. Furthermore, the government has decided to amend the regulatory framework governing LNG terminals.
These changes may permit private power producers to import LNG independently. Additionally, third parties may gain access to use any vacant capacity at the LNG terminals.
The Petroleum Division is currently preparing a summary detailing these proposed measures for the Cabinet Committee on Energy's review. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received an initial briefing concerning the proposed gas load management plan.
Final endorsement for the gas load management plan will require approval from the federal cabinet.
