The government is developing a system to provide electricity relief to consumers based on poverty levels rather than the consumption of up to 200 units. Officials are currently working to increase the existing electricity relief threshold to 250 units.
Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari stated that the number of electricity consumers using up to 200 units has reached 20 million. Senator Abid Sher Ali said, "If a consumer uses just one unit more than 200 units, the electricity bill suddenly doubles."
Circular debt has declined to Rs1.67 trillion, with the government setting a target to eliminate the debt over the next four years. The debt servicing surcharge linked to circular debt will be abolished during this four-year period.
Budgetary support for the ministry fell to Rs700 billion during the current year, down from Rs1.18 trillion received when the government first assumed office. A complete ban is now in force on the issuance of manual and discretionary detection bills by SDOs or field staff.
Issuing manual bills will be officially treated as severe misconduct, making staff liable to major penalties and strict disciplinary proceedings.
