Ford announced that its new Fathom electric pickup truck features bidirectional charging capabilities. Priced at under $30,000, the Fathom serves as the inaugural vehicle built on the company's Universal Electric Vehicle Platform.

The truck integrates the inverter directly into an onboard unit called the E-box. This E-box provides over 10 kW of AC power natively.

Ford aims to offer the Ford Home Power Station at a 50 percent discount compared to the current $1,310 price of the Ford Charge Station Pro. The manufacturer targets a total price of approximately $3,123 for a package including the Ford Home Power Station and a backup panel.

Standard costs for this specific combination of equipment currently reach around $5,205. Pacific Gas and Electric, American Electric Power, BC Hydro, Consumers Energy, and Exelon joined Ford in a new partnership.

These five power companies and Ford agreed to automate grid programs, use universal plugs, and reduce paperwork for basic storm backup. Ford described the development as a "Model T moment."
