A woman in Faisalabad has accused her husband of selling her to a friend for repayment of a Rs. 70,000 loan, according to reports. The alleged incident occurred in Kokianwala, where Nadia, now living with her widowed mother in Madanpura, says she was married to Usman from Mananwala 12 years ago and has three children.
Nadia alleges that after moving the family into a rented house in Ansari Park, Usman began bringing his friend Shehzad home frequently. When Nadia objected to these visits, her husband allegedly subjected her to violence, leading to further allegations of abuse. She claims that when Shehzad demanded repayment of the loan, Usman sold her to him.
According to Nadia, after the alleged sale, Usman fled with their eight-year-old son Abuzar and 10-year-old daughter Madiha. She was taken by Shehzad and his accomplices to his house where she was held at gunpoint. The woman says that nine days later, a fake divorce document was prepared on August 7, 2025, using her CNIC.
Nadia alleges that after the fake divorce, she was forced into another marriage under threats to her children’s safety. She said that for about a year, Shehzad continued to threaten and abuse her until her brothers traced and recovered her on June 17. However, Nadia claims that her four-year-old son remains in Shehzad's custody.
The woman has applied to the Faisalabad CPO for action but says police have failed to arrest the suspects or recover her children. She has appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and IG Punjab for assistance in recovering her three children and ensuring legal action against the accused.
Nadia's case highlights the complex issues surrounding domestic violence, financial abuse, and the challenges faced by women seeking justice in Pakistan. The ongoing situation underscores the need for robust legal frameworks and effective enforcement mechanisms to protect victims of such crimes.
