ISLAMABAD: The government of Pakistan has taken a significant step towards transforming the country's transportation sector by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chinese firm Bahum Global Ltd. Under this agreement, StarCharge Energy Pakistan will partner with Bahum Global to establish EV charging stations across the nation.

Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan, emphasized the government's commitment to promoting electric mobility in Pakistan. He highlighted that the upcoming Battery Energy Storage System Policy would pave the way for an EV revolution, attracting foreign investment and creating a sustainable industrial ecosystem.

The MoU marks the first major agreement towards strengthening Pakistan’s electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem through international collaboration and technology transfer. According to Mr Khan, the establishment of EV charging infrastructure will support the growing adoption of electric vehicles by making them more accessible and convenient for consumers.

Mr Khan further stated that the government was committed to reducing dependence on imported petroleum products, which would lower Pakistan’s import bill while promoting environmental sustainability and energy security. He added that local manufacturing of lithium-ion batteries was being promoted as part of this initiative.

The partnership between StarCharge Energy Pakistan and Bahum Global Ltd is expected to significantly enhance Pakistan's EV infrastructure. Bahum Global will provide technological support, while StarCharge Energy will leverage its local expertise to ensure the successful implementation of charging stations across the country.

The MoU signing ceremony underscores the government’s strategic approach towards sustainable transportation solutions. It aims to create a robust framework for the development and expansion of electric vehicle charging networks, thereby contributing to Pakistan's broader goals of environmental conservation and economic diversification.

In his remarks, Mr Khan expressed optimism about the potential benefits of this collaboration. He stated that the MoU was the first major agreement towards strengthening Pakistan’s EV ecosystem, setting a precedent for future partnerships in the sector.
