  • Construction activities are being hastened to ensure student safety before the monsoon season.

Punjab authorities have ordered immediate repair and reconstruction work for 135 unsafe schools in Lahore. The directive was issued on Thursday following a series of incidents involving roof collapses at dilapidated school buildings, which had been identified through a fresh survey by the Strategic Management Unit.

According to a spokesperson from the Education Department, several incidents of roof collapses have occurred due to the poor condition of these buildings. These incidents highlight the urgent need for intervention and repair work to ensure student safety.

The spokesperson stated that most of the repair work on dilapidated school buildings is expected to be completed during the summer vacations. Additionally, rehabilitation of unsafe buildings and construction of additional classrooms are also underway. This comprehensive plan aims to provide a secure learning environment for students before the upcoming monsoon season.

In view of the potential hazards posed by the deteriorating structures, officials have expedited construction activities at these schools. The focus is on ensuring that all necessary repairs are completed in time to prevent any incidents during the rainy season. This move reflects the government's commitment to prioritizing the safety and well-being of students.

The spokesperson further mentioned that the renovation plan had been delayed due to a change in policy last year, which resulted in the pending completion of construction work. However, with the current directive, efforts are being intensified to address these issues promptly.

Local residents have welcomed this decision, expressing relief at the government's proactive approach towards addressing safety concerns in schools. They hope that these measures will prevent any further incidents and ensure a secure learning environment for children.
