A two-day national seminar on Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) was launched in Islamabad by WWF Pakistan and the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS). The event, which began on Wednesday, is part of a collaborative effort to enhance climate resilience through natural methods.

The seminar aims to explore practical ways nature can be harnessed to address environmental challenges. Participants will include experts from diverse fields such as ecology, agriculture, and urban planning, who will share insights and best practices in implementing NbS.

Dr. Aisha Khan, CEO of WWF Pakistan, stated: 'Nature-based solutions offer a sustainable approach to climate change adaptation and mitigation. By working together, we can create more resilient communities.'

Mr. Zain Ul Abidin, Secretary General of PRCS, added: 'This seminar is crucial for fostering collaboration between government bodies and non-governmental organizations in addressing the pressing issues of climate change.'

The discussions will cover a range of topics including reforestation projects, wetland conservation, and sustainable agriculture practices. These initiatives are expected to provide long-term benefits by enhancing ecosystem services and reducing vulnerability to natural disasters.

Experts from international organizations such as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and local universities have also been invited to contribute their knowledge and expertise. The seminar will facilitate a platform for knowledge exchange and policy formulation.

The event is expected to attract participants from across Pakistan, including policymakers, environmentalists, and community leaders. By bringing together these stakeholders, the organizers hope to catalyze action towards more sustainable development practices.

Following the seminar, WWF Pakistan and PRCS plan to develop a comprehensive strategy for implementing NbS in various regions of Pakistan. The ultimate goal is to build a more resilient society that can better withstand the impacts of climate change.
