Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with newly appointed Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Chief Minister Amjad Hussain on Tuesday, assuring him of the federal government’s commitment to working closely for the welfare of GB’s people. The meeting was attended by key ministers including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, and Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema.

In his address, PM Shehbaz highlighted several development initiatives being undertaken in sectors such as renewable energy, tourism, infrastructure, health, and education. He specifically mentioned the 100-megawatt solar energy initiative as a top priority, emphasizing its importance for the region’s progress.

The federal government also plans to establish knowledge schools in GB, aiming to improve educational standards and provide better opportunities for the local population. Additionally, PM Shehbaz announced that a Pakistan Asaan Khidmat Centre will be set up in Gilgit to facilitate convenient public services for the people of GB.

Chief Minister Hussain was elected unopposed by the GB Assembly on June 22, with support from the PPP and PML-N, mirroring the federal government’s coalition arrangement. His appointment marks a significant step towards regional governance under the current political landscape in Pakistan.

During the meeting, PM Shehbaz also congratulated Hussain on his new role, expressing confidence in his ability to lead GB effectively. The prime minister’s assurance of close collaboration and support for GB’s development initiatives underscores the federal government’s commitment to addressing the region’s needs and fostering its growth.
