Key Takeaways

  • The Pakistan Meteorological Department forecasts rain, wind, and thundershowers in several parts of the country.
  • Heavy rainfall could trigger landslides and flash flooding in vulnerable areas.
  • Rainfall was reported in various regions with Okara recording the highest at 29 mm.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning for rain, wind, and thundershowers across multiple provinces of Pakistan. The forecast covers Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeast Punjab, eastern Sindh, and Gilgit Baltistan from Monday evening through Tuesday.

Despite the incoming weather system, hot and humid conditions are expected to continue in most parts of the country. The PMD has specifically warned that heavy rainfall could lead to landslides in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, and Kashmir. Flash flooding is also anticipated in local streams and nullahs within these regions.

In the past 24 hours, rain accompanied by wind and thundershowers was reported in parts of upper Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Barkhan in Balochistan, and Gilgit Baltistan. The highest rainfall recorded was in Okara with 29 mm, followed closely by Narowal at 23 mm and Sahiwal at 19 mm.

Other areas that received rainfall include Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Gilgit, and Skardu. These regions are advised to be prepared for potential adverse weather conditions and to take necessary precautions.

The PMD has urged the public to stay informed about the latest updates through their official channels and to follow safety guidelines during this period of inclement weather.

Local authorities have been instructed to monitor vulnerable areas closely, particularly in Gilgit Baltistan, Kashmir, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where landslides are a significant concern. Emergency services are on high alert to respond swiftly to any incidents that may arise.
