The Marka-e-Haq 2nd Asian Masters Weightlifting Championship and World Masters Grand Prix 2026 commenced on 20 October at the Liaquat Gymnasium in the Pakistan Sports Complex. Kiran Imran Dar attended the opening ceremony as the chief guest.

Dar praised the commitment of Arshad Khan Turk, President of the Pakistan Weightlifting Association, for making the international championship possible. The guest extended a specific welcome to Indian visitors, expressing hope that they would experience Pakistani hospitality and return home with positive memories.

Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani also greeted the delegations, stating that international gatherings provide an excellent opportunity to develop friendships and strengthen sporting relations among participating countries. Wani noted that masters athletes serve as an inspiration by demonstrating that commitment to fitness and discipline can continue throughout life.

Turk described the championship as a watershed moment for the development of weightlifting in Pakistan and an opportunity to demonstrate the nation's organisational capacity. The Pakistan Sports Board collaborated with the PMWA to organise the event, which features around 250 masters weightlifters from 21 countries.

Competitions will continue until 25 October.

"Pakistan is delighted to welcome all the participating athletes and officials. I congratulate Arshad Khan Turk for his commitment and hard work in making this international championship possible. Organising an event of this scale requires dedication, perseverance and a strong belief in the power of sports to bring people together," said Kiran Imran Dar.
