Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus stated that Cristiano Ronaldo may return to the national team if he makes the choice to do so. Jesus added, "If he wants to, he’ll return to the national team. We can talk before the next call-up, but Cris is the one who’s going to decide."

Ronaldo departed Portugal’s training camp after serving as an unused substitute during the win against Norway and learning he would not start against Denmark. Portugal secured a 2-1 victory over Norway in the Nations League on Sunday.

Furthermore, the team achieved a 4-2 win in Denmark without the participation of Ronaldo. Pedro Proenca, President of the Portuguese Football Federation, asserted that Ronaldo remained within the team’s plans.

Proenca stated, "He is in the national team on sporting merit, and that must be unquestionable." Portugal is scheduled to host Denmark on 14 November 2026 and will visit Wales three days later.
