Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) Khairpur Chapter, through the Young Peace and Development Corps (YPDC), organized a speech competition to mark 6th September Defence Day of Pakistan. The competition, themed ‘Our Martyrs, Our Pride’, aimed to provide students with a platform to express their views and pay tribute to the sacrifices of Pakistan’s martyrs and defenders.
The event was held at the Students’ Societies Centre, Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur, and featured inspiring speeches in English, Urdu, and Sindhi. Students demonstrated their communication skills and showcased their understanding of the historic significance of Defence Day.
Certificates and prizes were awarded to students who secured prominent positions in the three language categories. Ms. Ayesha Abid from the Department of Law, Aftab Ali from the Department of English, and Dilbar Khan were among the winners.
Vice Chancellor, Shah Abdul Latif University, Meritorious Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk, graced the event as Chief Guest. He highlighted the importance of 6th September, which symbolizes courage, sacrifice, and national unity. Dr. Khushk emphasized that the sacrifices of Pakistan’s martyrs are a source of national pride and that young people must learn from their courage, patriotism, discipline, and commitment to the country.
The student speakers highlighted the historic significance of Defence Day and recalled the courage of Pakistan’s defenders. They expressed their resolve to contribute to Pakistan’s progress through education, professional excellence, responsible citizenship, and service to society.
The participants were evaluated by Syeda Shumaila Rubab Rizvi, Ms. Varisha, and Asad Abbas, who assessed them based on content, pronunciation, confidence, body language, and overall presentation. Asad Abbas also conducted the proceedings and effectively moderated the competition.
Addressing the students, Professor Dr. Khushk emphasized that universities have an important responsibility to develop confident, responsible, and patriotic citizens. He said that while soldiers defend the country’s borders, students and scholars serve the nation through classrooms, laboratories, research, innovation, and the responsible use of technology.
The Vice Chancellor also appreciated Dr. Ali Raza Lashari, Coordinator, Students’ Societies Centre, and YPDC, for organizing the event and providing students with meaningful opportunities for learning, expression, leadership, and personal development.
