Prince William stated that a holistic approach is necessary to tackle severe flooding across the region. Residents in Skenfrith, Monmouthshire, have endured four significant floods over the last six years.
Last winter saw an extreme flood when the River Monnow burst its banks. In 2019, flooding and a power cut prompted the evacuation of approximately 25 homes in the village.
The prince suggested that understanding how to adopt a better holistic view of the entire catchment area is important. Jenny Knight paid tribute to William for focusing on solutions alongside the problems.
Knight added that knowledge exchange proves valuable, and collaboration across different sectors would increase the impact. Harry Davies, who is 25 years old, is scheduled to lead the Duchy of Cornwall's initial regenerative farming project.
The charity Stump Up for Trees, established in 2020, aims to plant one million native trees throughout south Wales and Bannau Brycheiniog. Regarding the charity's efforts, Stump Up for Trees collected 35,000 seeds last year and anticipates raising this figure to 60,000 this year.
William personally planted a sessile oak tree during the visit. Davies stated that retaining water within the soil profile will benefit the land over time, especially during hot and dry periods.
