Pete Hegseth announced that the United States slashed twenty percent of its military leadership cadre, implementing major cuts to the US military that included a ten percent reduction to the total number of generals and admirals, alongside a twenty percent decrease in the highest four-star ranks. Hegseth stated that these reductions are intended to ensure the military concentrates on war-fighting rather than the 'woke' policies of previous administrations, claiming the cuts target officers who failed to align with his efforts.
Furthermore, Hegseth claimed the overall reduction amounted to a twenty percent reduction across the board. Separately, Elon Musk will co-lead Project Meridian, an initiative designed to study the future of warfare, according to Hegseth.
Musk will share the co-leadership role for Project Meridian with Palmer Luckey and Newt Gingrich. Previously, Musk served as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and spearheaded job cuts across the US federal government.
Musk's corporations, including SpaceX, are reportedly building satellite networks for Trump’s planned 'Golden Dome' missile defence shield.
