The United States military has spent more than $47 billion to prosecute the war in Iran. This total cost is more than 25 percent higher than the estimate provided by the Defence Department in July.

Pete Hegseth stated that the Pentagon's July estimate for the cost of the war was $37.5 billion. Replacing the munitions expended during the conflict is projected to cost more than $29 billion.

An additional $6 billion would be required to replace losses in military equipment and platforms. A ceasefire occurred in April, following a naval blockade imposed on Iran by Trump.

US officials said the Pentagon has been planning to restart heavy fighting if ordered to do so. The November 3 election will determine control of Congress for the next two years, where Trump's Republican Party holds a narrow majority in both chambers.

Military cost estimates did not clearly account for the expense to repair damage to US bases.
