The number of mpox deaths in Sindh reached 12 this year following the death of a child in Karachi. Health authorities identified seven new infections over the last week, bringing the total number of cases in Sindh to 98, according to Rashid Khan.

Karachi recorded 26 infections, while Khairpur reported 22 cases and Sukkur saw 9. Hyderabad reported 5 cases, and Ghotki, Kashmore, and Shaheed Benazirabad each recorded 3 infections.

Men account for approximately 73% of the reported cases, with women making up the remaining 27%. The Sindh Healthcare Commission sealed Ibn-e-Hasan Hospital in Malir 15, Karachi, after a laboratory report confirmed mpox in a 20-day-old newborn.

The infant had undergone circumcision at the facility when the infection was detected. Dr Abdullah Yahya stated, "The virus could also be transmitted through contaminated clothing, towels, bedding and other personal belongings used by an infected person."

Yahya added that while the severity of the illness varies, infants and people with weakened immune systems may face a higher risk of severe illness and complications.
