Pakistan mandates internships for students at 282 universities

Universities across Pakistan must now provide mandatory internships for their students, according to a new requirement affecting 282 institutions. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) is overseeing the enforcement of this rule to ensure all universities comply with the standard.
Introduced in 2023, the policy allocates three academic credit hours specifically for the completion of these internships. Youth Development Centres were previously established at universities to offer career and academic guidance to the student body.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the creation of these centres to foster connections between students and representatives from various industries. The government also announced the distribution of 500,000 Chromebooks to students to support their educational needs.
