The government maintains off-the-record contacts with certain leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party. Rana Sanaullah stated, "We have off-the-record contacts with them, with those friends."
These communications occur via telephone and during sessions of the National Assembly and Senate. Internal divisions within the PTI regarding the negotiation process are preventing these informal links from evolving into formal dialogue.
Sanaullah claimed that individuals who desired the success of previous negotiations faced pressure and trolling. The PTI has provided no indication to the government that it has altered its policy or approach.
Despite remaining in the House, the PTI boycotted parliamentary committees. Reviving the stalled dialogue would begin with a meeting between the prime minister and Leader of the Opposition Mahmood Khan Achakzai.
Sanaullah said there is no logic behind the reluctance of Mahmood Khan Achakzai to meet the premier at the Prime Minister’s House. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approached the seat of the opposition leader whenever he visited the House.
Sanaullah said "sense will prevail."
