The UNICEF delegation, comprising Sidahmed Abdullah and Muhammad Khalid Irfan, expressed appreciation for the measures taken by the Government of Punjab. The delegation visited the Digital Media and Public Outreach Cell of the Punjab Home Department to learn about ongoing initiatives.
The Punjab Home Department has developed an animated cartoon series titled ‘Haya and Bahadur’ to promote child protection awareness. The series aims to sensitize children to appropriate and inappropriate physical behavior in an age-appropriate manner. It teaches children to recognize inappropriate conduct and report it to their parents.
In addition to the cartoon series, the department is running a ‘Good Touch, Bad Touch’ awareness campaign to prevent sexual abuse of young children. Parents and teachers are encouraged to educate children about how to report sexual abuse or exploitation, both at home and outside.
The Punjab Home Department is also taking steps to incorporate awareness about ‘Good Touch, Bad Touch’ into the curriculum of early-grade classes. This initiative is expected to enable children to develop a basic understanding of personal safety from an early age, thereby playing a crucial role in protecting them from abuse and sexual exploitation.
Director Public Relations Tauseef Sabih Gondal briefed the delegation on the progress of these initiatives, emphasizing the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of children. The delegation was impressed by the comprehensive approach taken by the Punjab government in addressing child protection issues.
