Pakistani students interested in pursuing a PhD abroad now have a new opportunity through the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) for the 2027-28 academic year.

The scheme supports outstanding students seeking full-time PhD study at participating universities in Hong Kong, including the University of Hong Kong (HKU).

The application process is now open, with a deadline of 1 December 2026 at 12:00 noon Hong Kong Time.

Students admitted to four-year PhD programs at HKU can receive the same HKPFS support during their fourth year, ensuring continuous financial assistance.

Extra benefits are available for HKU students, including an additional cash award of HK$40,000 during the first year and HK$20,000 per year during the remaining normative study period.

HKU also waives composition fees for HKPFS awardees throughout the normal duration of their PhD studies, which are typically HK$49,500 per year.

Eligibility for the scheme is not restricted by country of origin, making it accessible to Pakistani students seeking admission to a new full-time PhD program at a participating university in Hong Kong.

Applicants can come from any field of study, provided the selected university offers the relevant doctoral program and they meet the individual admission requirements.

The selection process evaluates candidates based on academic excellence, research ability, and potential, communication and interpersonal skills, and leadership ability.

There is no universal GPA requirement, as participating universities and individual departments may apply their own academic admission standards.
