In a consolation match following their loss in the T20 series, Pakistan women’s cricket team secured a four-wicket victory over Sri Lanka at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on Tuesday.

Right-handed middle-order batter Ayesha Zafar played an instrumental role with a 31-ball knock of 39 runs, laced with six fours. Her teammate Shawaal Zulfiqar contributed significantly by scoring 21 in just 12 balls, including three fours and one six.

For the hosts, captain Chamari Athapaththu top-scored with 34 runs, smashing five fours during her innings. However, Sri Lanka’s efforts were not enough as they were all out for 113-6 in their allotted 20 overs.

Momina Riasat, a 23-year-old from Pakistan, was the standout bowler for the team, taking two wickets for just 18 runs from four overs. Her performance was crucial in securing the victory.

Pakistan’s chase was completed with six wickets lost and only 10 balls to spare, as they managed to reach their target of 114. The win provided some relief to the touring team after suffering defeats in the first two matches of the series.

Prior to this T20 series, Pakistan had faced Sri Lanka in a three-match ODI series that was won by the hosts 2-1. This T20 match served as a consolation for both teams but particularly for Pakistan’s women’s cricket team.

The victory highlighted the resilience and determination of the Pakistani team under pressure, showcasing their ability to bounce back from setbacks.
