Pakistan has improved its position by five places in the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report 2026, moving from 148th in 2025 to 143rd among 145 economies assessed.
According to an announcement by Mishal Pakistan, a partner institute of the World Economic Forum, Pakistan recorded its strongest year-on-year improvement in a decade.
The overall gender parity score increased by 2.8 percentage points, from 56.7 percent in 2025 to 59.5 percent in 2026.
Despite the improvement, Pakistan remains among the lowest-ranked economies in the index, with a gender parity score of 59.5 percent.
Since 2006, Pakistan’s gender parity score has increased by 5.2 percentage points, from 54.3 percent to 59.5 percent.
The 2026 report measures gender disparities across four areas: Economic Participation and Opportunity, Educational Attainment, Health and Survival, and Political Empowerment.
Pakistan improved its ranking across all four areas, with the largest gains recorded in Educational Attainment and Political Empowerment, where it advanced 11 positions.
Economic Participation and Opportunity remains Pakistan’s weakest performing area and the main constraint on its overall gender parity, scoring 36.4 percent and ranking 144th globally and last in South Asia.
In Educational Attainment, Pakistan recorded a record parity score of 91.7 percent, ranking 130th globally.
