More than 45 criminal incidents were reported in Islamabad last week, despite tight security arrangements, according to data gathered by Business Recorder. The incidents included theft, robbery, car theft, and murder.
The 45 reported incidents comprised 24 auto theft and carjacking cases, nine street crime incidents involving the snatching of mobile phones and cash at gunpoint, and 11 cases of theft and robbery.
Of the 24 vehicles stolen or snatched during the last week, 23 were motorbikes, and one was a car. The incidents were concentrated in the jurisdictions of the Karachi Company, Shalimar, Sabzi Mandi, Shams Colony, and Khanna police stations.
The most shocking incident was the kidnapping and subsequent murder of a three-year-old girl. She was playing in the street when she disappeared, leading to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) under Section 363 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
Following the registration of the case, the police formed a team and took a suspect into custody. During interrogation, the man confessed to killing the girl and dumping her body in a wooded area about one-and-a-half kilometres from the police station.
The police then took the suspect to the location and recovered the girl’s body. The suspect had strangled the girl with a waistband. The Shalimar police station registered three cases of robbery, while the Sabzi Mandi police station registered one case each of robbery, street crime, and auto theft.
Furthermore, the Shams Colony Police Station registered one case of street crime and two cases of auto theft, while the Ramana police station registered one case of street crime and two cases of robbery.
The Karachi Company Police Station registered five cases of auto theft and one case of robbery. The incidents highlight the ongoing challenges in maintaining public safety in the federal capital.
