Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) has called on the Sindh government to ensure the job security of 450 employees at the Sindh Government Children Hospital in North Karachi. A delegation of doctors, paramedical staff, and other hospital workers met with JI Karachi chief Monem Zafar Khan at Idara Noor-e-Haq on Tuesday.
The workers, who have been without salaries and other dues for five months, were informed that their employment would end on September 30, 2026, after the hospital's administration was transferred to a new NGO. The delegation stated that the move was unjust and that the hospital had been established in 2003, later handed over to the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and then to the Poverty Eradication Initiative (PEI) in 2016.
Monem Zafar assured the delegation of JI’s full support and said the party had previously raised its voice against the hospital’s deteriorating condition and in support of employees’ demands. He added that JI MPA Muhammad Farooq would raise the issue in the Sindh Assembly to demand job protection for all employees, including doctors and paramedical staff.
Shakeel Ahmed, JI District North Secretary, and Najeeb Ayubi, Public Aid Committee Karachi Secretary, were also present at the meeting. Monem Zafar emphasized that rendering 450 employees jobless was unacceptable and that the Sindh government had a responsibility to bind the new administration to retain the employees.
The delegation highlighted that employees had not received any salary increases or allowances during the 10-year period and that their dues had remained unpaid. Meanwhile, the Sindh government had provided annual grants ranging from Rs450 million to Rs750 million to the hospital administration.
JI has also pledged to approach the provincial health department to address the issue. The party’s efforts are aimed at ensuring that the new administration adheres to the terms of the agreement and retains the hospital’s workforce, which has been critical to the hospital’s operations and patient care.
Rendering 450 employees jobless cannot be acceptable in any way. It is the responsibility of the Sindh government to bind the new administration to retain the employees.
