Zverev’s victory was significant as he was guaranteed the year-end world number one ranking after third-ranked Carlos Alcaraz lost to Zizou Bergs the previous day.

Reflecting on the achievement, Zverev said, 'I’m starting to feel my body more, but happy to be through.' He also highlighted the special nature of the ranking, calling it 'a different feeling to winning tournaments.'

In an earlier match, 56th-ranked Arthur Gea also progressed, defeating Jakub Mensik 7-6 (7/4), 6-4. Gea, the lowest-ranked player left in the draw, expressed satisfaction with his performance, saying, 'I’m enjoying how I’m playing. I feel I’m improving all the time.'

Gea’s victory was particularly notable as he had previously defeated US Open finalist Ben Shelton in the third round, marking the biggest win of his career.

Gea will face Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the next round, who secured his place in the quarter-finals after defeating Hubert Hurkacz 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 (8/6).

Davidovich Fokina, ranked 26th, had to overcome a critical mistake, missing a smash and diving for a point in vain, to secure his victory.
