Secretary Health Azmat Mahmood has announced that the new facility will provide modern cancer treatment options, reducing the need for patients to travel to other cities for specialized care.

In line with this initiative, the Punjab Health Department is also working on the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research in Lahore, further expanding the province’s cancer care services.

The department has introduced a transparent, merit-based system for house jobs and postgraduate training for foreign medical graduates, aiming to improve the quality of healthcare services.

A nine-member committee, comprising vice-chancellors of medical universities and principals of medical colleges, has been formed to review the existing process and ensure uniformity and transparency.

The committee will focus on verifying medical degrees, registration, licences, and eligibility criteria for foreign medical graduates, enhancing the credibility of the training process.

These initiatives reflect the provincial government’s commitment to strengthening specialized healthcare infrastructure and improving access to cancer diagnosis and treatment.
