Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has approved an extension of the one-member judicial commission investigating the death of young businessman Mir Raza Ali, according to Aaj News. The extension will last until October 15, allowing the panel to continue its examination of the case.

The commission, headed by Sindh High Court Justice Omar Sial, had its initial term expire on September 27. It has since adjourned proceedings until October 2 to complete statements from remaining witnesses and prepare its final report.

During its investigation, the commission has raised questions about the handling of evidence and the performance of the initial investigation team. It has also examined discrepancies in the first post-mortem report and the constitution of medical boards.

The commission has expressed concern over the handling of CCTV footage from the crime scene, noting that only footage from one of the 52 cameras installed was initially obtained. It has also questioned the circumstances in which part of the crime scene was set on fire.

Justice Sial has summoned senior officials, including Health Secretary Tahir Hussain Sangi and Director General Health Shehryar Memon, to address issues related to the investigation and medical examination.

The commission has also examined alleged discrepancies in Mir Raza’s first post-mortem report, with police surgeon Dr Summaiyya Syed pointing out deficiencies in the report. A subsequent post-mortem ruled out suicide, leading to a murder charge being added to the case.

Mir Raza’s sister Alishba and family lawyer Jibran Nasir have stated they will approach the court to seek the formation of an empowered joint investigation team (JIT) to identify and arrest those responsible for his death, citing shortcomings in the police investigation.

Mir Raza Ali went missing on July 28, 2026, and his body was recovered the following day. Initial police reports suggested suicide, but his family insisted he was murdered. A second post-mortem, conducted after exhumation, revealed signs of torture, multiple fractures, and a gunshot wound from the rear, leading to a murder charge being added to the case.

A new police investigation team was formed, and the Sindh High Court constituted the judicial commission to investigate his death. The investigation team has since confirmed that Mir Raza was murdered, ruling out suicide.
